Hugo In The Bronx

|
Hugo Chavez has offered to provide low-cost heating oil to people in the Bronx. . . .as long as it's administered in Socialist fashion. Congressman José Serrano of the Bronx speaks openly of his admiration for Chavez. Here's an audio file of the PRI interview with Serrano I heard on the radio last night. I have no words to describe the dishonesty captured here.
One of my closest friends is Venezuelan, so I get frequent updates on the sufferings of her family under the Chavez regime. While Serano and Public Radio indulge themselves fawning over this Mugabe clone, my friend's extended family members defend themselves from Chavez' land grab and do what they can to defend liberty in their country. . . . (her cousin by marriage is a rum magnate, and the tale of how he --at least so far-- has staved off Chavez's thugs by essentially giving his employees stakes in the company and allowing them to homestead on the rum plantation is quite interesting --a mini- triumph of capitalism).
They resist for now; but they also make their contingency plans for how they will escape when what they see as inevitable happens. Then their family will be broken up; some are American citizens and will land here; Grandma will go to Chile; others will land in Costa Rica. Sad.
