Zadok Replies

I like Zadok the Roman's comment on my Narnia post so much, I'm putting it here. He makes the ground of the distinction I made between "Christian art" and art that happens to be Christian more explicit (the point I was making at the close of this post a few days ago).
I think we need to be a bit more secure about our understanding of the incarnation - Christ shows us what it is to be fully and truly human. Therefore, authentic art which honestly addresses the human condition is de facto shedding light on the mystery of man's relationship with God. That's why we can see value in the works which are not explicitly Christian and why Christian art should take the risk of not being explicitly didactic. All that is good, true and beautiful ultimately points to Christ - there is no other principle of truth or goodness.
