Gone Fishin'

Literally. Plus more lakeside activities in the UP. It's probably salutary to be away from the news and out of range of phone lines for 10 days, but now it seems like an inopportune time for a vacation. Please make liberal use of those links over to the right while I'm gone. Especially ninme, queen of links, for news & info., Hugh Hewitt for political perspective that doesn't make you wish to slit your wrists with gloom, The Ryskind Sketchbook for humor, and First Things, Ignatius & Mere Comments for religious and cultural commentary.

Right now, though, ninme's got a good preliminary round-up on Scotland Yard's great coup this morning. I'll add just three items.
  • First, the veep's interview yesterday becomes more interesting in light of this news.
  • Second --I don't have time now to seek sourcing on this (I'm hoping ninme or someone will track it down)-- but when the alarm awakened us this morning, a Scotland Yard official was saying that the Brits didn't bring us (U.S.) in on this for quite a while because they feared a CIA leak. That, to me, is the big story if true. The CIA 5th column with its willing collaborators at the NYT could have cost American lives: because as good a friend as Britain is to us, her first responsibility is to her own citizens --and she isn't going to share information with us anymore until she's good and ready.

Feel free to come by and pick the tomatoes while we're gone.
