A Eulogy For The AG

|
I'm not saying Alberto Gonzalez was a perfect AG, but I can't help but think stories like this help explain the vicious animus against him among a certain element of the "civil rights means no moral limits" crowd. The former head of the ACLU in Virginia was sentenced to 7 years in prison today for traffic in graphic images of children.

A federal magistrate who declined to release him in March described the images she viewed as "the most perverted and nauseating and sickening type of child pornography" she had seen in 10 years on the bench.

Ellis also refused to release Rust-Tierney, saying he posed "a serious risk of harm to the community." The judge added that "the term 'child pornography' does not convey the depravity" of the images that were downloaded.

He was caught in a raid that was part of:

a nationwide initiative -- Project Safe Childhood -- that was created in February 2006 by U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales.
Say what you will, the man was hell on child exploiters. I feel really good about the Right's contribution to sinking a man hated by the ACLU.
