Mr. W. stumbled upon this at the WaPo site. One Anna Uhls posts the "Top 10 American Speeches."
10. Martin Luther King, Jr., "I've Been to the Mountaintop," 1968.
9. Woodrow Wilson, "War Message," 1917.
8. Franklin Delano Rosevelt's Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation, 1941.
7. Franklin Delano Rosevelt's First Inaugural Address, 1933.
6. Malcolm X, "The Ballot or the Bullet," 1964.
5. Truman, "The Truman Doctrine," 1947.
4. Robert Kennedy's remarks on the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., 1968.
3. Richard Nixon, "Checkers" 1962.
2. JFK's Inaugural Address, 1961.
1. Martin Luther King, Jr., "I Have a Dream," 1963

Why bother with the "Checkers" speech? She should just say what she thinks, that no Republican has ever given a good speech. The whole world wrote in and rebuked her for leaving out the Gettysburg address, to which she responded she was thinking only of the 20th c.

One reader provided his alternative list:
1. The Gettysburg Address
2. MLK -- I Have A Dream
3. Washington's Farewell
4. Lincoln's Second Inaugural -- with malice towards none
5. FDR -- The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself
6. Kennedy at the Berlin Wall
7. Reagan at the Berlin Wall
8. Gehrig -- Luckiest Man on the Face of the earth
9. Arthur Jensen's speech in the movie "Network" -- "primal forces of nature"
10. RFK in Indianapolis
Well...better.
