Mistaken Movies

Tom Hoopes on 7 Mistakes Movies Make. And 2 Mistakes Tom Hoopes makes. Good article, but I have to side with the critic in defense of Jane Austen. Part of her schtick is a profound criticism of a culture in which women are helpless and dependent. It's easy to loathe wealth and class consciousness in a polity in which one is free to rise above it. Her main point is how difficult it is to love rightly, not how difficult it is to marry into wealth. Plus I loathed the atrocious Sex On A Boat movie, although I take his point. But he's right about Hollywood having the same formulaic approach to story-telling that it mocks in older films.
