Where The Boys Aren't

|
One effect of China's one-child policy has been a tendency for parents to abort, expose or abandon at the orphanage doors any female babies. So what to make of the fact that all the pictures I've seen of kids missing from the earthquake are girls? For example, we are told that 9 of the 48 kids in the Chinese 4th grade pictured above survived, and it so happens there are 9 boys in the picture (maybe 10, I'm doubtful about one kid in the back row). Below we have a shot of grieving parents. Five missing children, four of them girls (and the kid 2nd from the left could be a girl).

Then I realized these photos are from a Christian mission in the region. Where can a girl go to be treated according to her inherent dignity and worth? To a Christian home.
