Field Report: McCain-Palin In VA

|
Big Mac & Sarracuda campaigned in Fairfax, VA today, and my spies were there. This shot was taken from the middle of the crowd.

Same position, telephoto lens:

Report from spy with seats up front:
It was great! I was 15-20 feet from the podium. Fred Thompson did a great job introducing and Palin was even better in person than on TV. She was also smaller than I expected, and a lot prettier in person. The first dude was great and looked right at home onstage. They could not have asked for better weather and a HUGE crowd. Even the Mayor of Fairfax was great, saying to another "mayor of a small town" that he could "feel her pain."
Even better is this post from a lefty (but reasonable, apparently) blog my spy sent me:

The McCain-Palin rally was orginally scheduled for Fairfax High School. Interested students were allowed to attend, and a thousand tickets or so were reserved for outside guests.

Seems to be reasonable- this is a major Presidential candidate- I would think the school would be thrilled to have an assembly with them. I remember when I was in Fairfax Public Schools having absurd assemblies for McGruff the crime dog, certainly they could do an assembly for a Presidential candidate.

Well, the Fairfax County School Board went nuts and said you can't have a Presidential candidate with students during the school day (they bite?) and the event was moved to an outdoor park.

And 27,000 people showed up according to my sources in the shuttle bus system.

ATTENTION DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL BOARD: YOU IDIOTS TURNED THIS INTO THE REPUBLICAN WOODSTOCK RIGHT IN FAIRFAX.

He adds this photo: Yeah, baby.

Update: More on-the-scene reporting.
