A Plague of ...Elephants?

|
Here's a freaky story for you. Last year, the Christians of Orissa, India, underwent a brutal persecution for the crime of opposing slavery. Mobs attacked churches, a nun was burned to death, people were subjected to gang rapes, car burnings and worse.

This year, at the very hour attacks on Christians began a year previously, an angry mob of elephants emerged from the jungle for a rampage that has left Christian homes untouched.
elephants first attacked a rock crusher machine owned by a key leader of the persecution movement.  They then went on to destroy his house and farms. Hundreds of villagers have been forced to take shelter in camps in the Indian state of Orissa after repeated attacks by a herd of elephants.[snip] Gaining momentum, they rampaged through other non-Christian homes, demolishing gardens and singling out the home of persecutors, leaving Christian homes untouched.
These elephants have no natural habitat in the region, and no one can figure out why they migrated from the sanctuary where they were living. Villagers think they know, however:
the fear of God has fallen on the local people, who have labeled these elephants “Christian elephants.”
I dunno. Christians don't "do" vengeance. The religious saying that comes to my mind is: "Karma is a b----."
