Huzzah from Down Under

Brett McS sends a cheerful report from Oz:
Conservatives retake Queensland!

And how!  Labor down to seven (7! from 51!) seats, Conservatives 75, Greens 0 (and down on percentage), independents and still undecided, the remaining few of 89 seats total.  Political commentators gob-smacked.

Campbell Newman is the new State Premier (Governor in your parlance).  Former Major in the Australian Army, professional engineer (!! [Brett's one]), most recently the Mayor of Brisbane (during the floods, where his excellent performance brought him national attention and the leadership of the state party), still only 48.  Organised, decisive, smart and charismatic.  Labor can write off Queensland for the foreseeable future.
Even better, that's 4 of 6 provinces now Conservative:
That’s Western Australia, Victoria, NSW (huge win), and now Queensland (massive win) the four largest of the six states now conservative (although Victoria’s Premier is a bit of a Cameron).  Next year’s Federal election will be another wipe-out of Labor on the scale of NSW and Queensland.
Here's an agonized news report to confirm. So, to sum up:

Good News: Our Emergency Back-up Country is big enough to hold us all.
Queensland is bigger than Texas and California combined, with huge mineral and gas resources.  A big prize for the free world!
decline in the U.S./Australian exchange isn’t the only one. Ten years ago the U.S. dollar was worth 1.6 Canadian; now it’s at par. A decade ago, the dollar was worth over ten Swedish Kroner, now 6.7; 1.8 Singapore dollars, now 1.2. I get asked with distressing frequency by Americans where I would recommend fleeing to. The reality is, given the dollar’s decline over the last decade, that most Americans can no longer afford to flee to any place worth fleeing to.
