I love this story of a Muslim restaurant owner in London who has proclaimed to the homeless and elderly, "No one eats alone on Christmas Day!"
RTWT, as I think there's something instructive about how he got the idea (from an elderly woman who reminded of his mom home in Turkey) and about how the gesture has spread.
A couple of Christmases ago Mr. W. read me a news story about a Jewish man in (I think) Detroit (Nope: Milwaukee) who volunteered to work on Christmas in place of a Christian and did a whole variety of different jobs as a result. (Oh, hurrah! I found the story. And I can't believe it's from 1998!) That's diversity and multiculturalism I can get behind -- because it so evidently springs from genuine good will.
