A mere 60 years later, the US is finally withdrawing its troops from Germany (kind of puts the Iraq situation in a different perspective, no?). Under the VDH theory (he has long advocated moving US military bases out of Old Europe), absence will make the heart grow fonder, as Old Europe is forced to take responsibility for its own security, and we'll see more and more of this kind of thinking (from a German businessman who is tired of people who respond to terrorism by proposing Muslim holidays in Germany).
