What If Mel Gibson Said These Things?

|
The post of this piece over at ninme's place set me thinking.
When asked whether he believed that Israel's "persecution" of Palestinians was "[e]ven worse . . . than a place like Rwanda," Carter answered, "Yes. I think -- yes."
Shouldn't Carter have to rehab, "reach out," and "begin the healing process" in punishment for his latest book?

UPDATE: A correspondent points me to this powerline post and wonders whether Gibson shouldn't lead the whole Democratic party leadership into rehab and "healing." ninme (great minds? we had the same thought almost simultaneously) points out (in her comments) that the difference between Gibson & Carter is that Gibson constantly struggles to overcome his shortcomings.
