Stem Cell Simplicity

Princeton's Robbie George & Westchester Institute's Thomas Berg, LC give you Six Stem-Cell Facts (WSJ subscription necessary). I won't quote at length since it's fire-walled, but I'll give you the six facts:

• There is no "ban" on human embryonic stem cell research in the United States.
• We are a long way away from therapies derived from embryonic stem cells. (Number of clinical trials underway using ESC? Zero. Number using adult stem cells? 1200)
• The human embryo has at least some degree of special moral status.
• There are non-controversial alternatives worth exploring.
• Concerns about embryo destruction are not only religious.
• While the search for cures is an important motive behind ESC research, it is clearly not the only motive.
