Two Benedicts

|
I can't call it Benedict the White Versus Benedict The Black, unfortunately, for reasons which will become obvious. Someone pointed out to me this morning that "Barack, " like "Benedict," means "blessing."

Each Benedict is in a way the embodiment of the two cultures vying for our allegiance, with promise of blessing to follow. Two views of the nature of truth, the role of reason in public life, the nature of freedom, the vision of the human person. Isn't that funny?
