In Which I Have A Crisis of Faith

|
I know it's the Easter season and we should be basking in 50 days of feasting and joy over the Resurrection, but I read this piece in WaPo Reflective Chavez Weeps At Mass in Venezuela, Asking God to Spare His Life and went into crisis.

It's not that I'm unable to pity Chavez, tyrant though he is. I don't wish cancer and the suffering that accompanies it on anyone. It's that he compared his vicious systematic enslavement of his people, leveling of his nation and crushing of the Church to Christ's suffering:
Give me your crown, Jesus. Give me your cross, your thorns so that I may bleed. But give me life, because I have more to do for this country and these people. Do not take me yet,” Chavez added, standing below an image of Jesus and the Crucifix.
And lightning did not strike.
